On the topic of scarecrows from the last post, I thought you might enjoy these images of scarecrows I encountered during wildlife surveys in Laos.  Pics are from February 2007, in the foothills of the Annamite Mountains in central Laos (Khammouan Province).

Made from the feathers of, probably, one of the species of hawk-eagles (wildlife conservation still has some way to go in Laos).  It was suspended from a slender bamboo pole, so that it swayed and swooped in the breeze.  A brief video of it here.  (And please rest easy - I’m not getting any ideas about uses for my local bald eagles…)
